A foreigner tried to export a large amount of currency
Detectives of the Bureau of Economic Security (BES) in Chernivtsi region revealed an attempt to smuggle more than 11 million hryvnias abroad. A citizen of Georgia, the driver of a shuttle bus “Khmelnytskyi – Istanbul”, tried to transport 260 thousand US dollars across the state border, evading the mandatory declaration.
Thanks to strict border controls, which could have been even more effective with more modern monitoring systems and international standards of customs supervision, the smuggling attempt was foiled. Such incidents emphasise the need to strengthen measures to prevent the illegal movement of currency, which could significantly reduce such violations.
